Return Policies

August 1, 2017

In Ohio, sellers can choose to set their own return policies, including policies of “no returns,” but they should clearly tell you what their return policy is before you check out or complete the transaction. For example, the return policy shouldn’t be posted only on the back of a receipt.

Also, if restocking fees apply (meaning you will be charged a fee to return an item to the shelves), the seller should clearly notify you about the fee before you complete the purchase.

To avoid problems, carefully review terms, conditions, and return policies before you buy. If you don’t understand any part of a seller’s policy, ask questions and get answers. Also keep your receipt and other documentation of a sale until the billing process is complete and you know you won’t need to make a return.
