Active duty and National Guard members eligible for free credit monitoring

January 21, 2020

To help spot identity theft, military – including both active duty and National Guard service members – can receive free electronic credit monitoring. This credit monitoring is being provided by the three major credit reporting bureaus – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion – as a result of a new Federal Trade Commission rule. The rule implements a law passed by Congress in 2018. Credit monitoring is an important tool to help consumers spot new credit accounts and loans that have been opened without a military service member’s permission.
