Refunds of event tickets as a result of the COVID-19 virus

As Ohio consumers adjust to the new reality of social distancing and business closures amid concerns of COVID-19, many consumers are questioning when events they had tickets to will be rescheduled or how to receive a refund. 

A chart with venue information for the major metropolitan areas can be viewed here and was compiled by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection Section. Please note that you will get the most up-to-date information by going to the venue or ticket seller’s website or by calling the phone numbers listed for each venue.

Most venues for which events have currently been cancelled are offering to either reschedule the event or are providing refunds.
For cancelled events that have tickets sold by major ticket distributors (i.e.: Ticketmaster, StubHub, etc.):

  • Distributors will generally automatically refund the full cost of the ticket and fees to the original purchaser’s credit card.
For rescheduled events that have tickets sold by major ticket distributors:
  • Original tickets will generally be honored at the rescheduled event.
For cancelled or rescheduled event tickets sold by the venue (for example, at the box office):
  • Visit the venue’s website. Most major venue’s websites have a notice regarding cancellations or rescheduling due to the COVID-19 virus.
  • Contact the customer service number located on the back of your ticket or listed on the website.
